Where are you from in Scotland?
I’m from Wormit, a small village on the north coast of Fife.
What is your job title and where do you work?
I am an Operations Officer for HALO Laos.
Why did you decide to join Â鶹ÊÓƵ?
The most important thing that I was looking for in a career was that it was morally unambiguous, and did some good for the world. I am lucky enough that HALO fulfils both of these goals.
What is the best thing about your job?
There are so many aspects of this job that I love. The people, the places, the hands-on nature of what I do, however, all of it combines to mean that when I wake up in the morning, I can’t wait to get to work.
What do you miss most about Scotland?
Despite loving what I do, I miss Scotland every day. I just sent my parents tickets to go to the Scotland Argentina match at Murrayfield for my mum’s birthday. Nothing is quite like being at Murrayfield with my family, so it’s hard to miss out on that. I have three sisters and a six-month old nephew, so when everyone is together, taking the dogs for a walk on St. Andrew's beach for example, I really miss home. However, I make a concerted effort to bring a bit of Scotland back with me whenever I go back on leave. Last time I brought back to Laos three kilograms of Stornoway Black Pudding and a huge block of Isle of Mull cheddar. I also miss the feeling of being cold, as Laos is roasting. And Scottish tap water—there is no better water in the world!
